FOREIGN AFFAIRS BABY COME HOME

As the frostbitten days of Winter draw near, Bristol-based brother duo Adam and Lawrence Purnell, aka Foreign Affairs, conjure up steamy Tennessee nights with ‘Baby Come Home’, the latest single to drop from their freshly released EP The Old Fire Station. Although the brothers’ songwriting pays heavy homage to classic Americana, it teeters on the folksier edge of contemporary C&W to charming effect, with flawless harmonies providing a lush backdrop for Lawrence’s twangy croon. The juxtaposition of trad Country melodies and sprawling, Western guitar delays with 2018-style angsty lyrics like ‘...before you point your little finger and snap and click, just remember who paid for this…’ makes ‘Baby Come Home’ as much of a joy for fans of modern folk fusion as for old-time bluegrass lovers. - Ayla Owen
